Hero

Bustamante’s character transforms, via video, from a gentle princess who has lost her puppy in a lush fall forest into an icy nefarious hag trudging through the snow. The theme of change and metamorphosis, in the tradition of Ovid and Kafka, is explored in the female corpus and in this case, the Hag and the Heroine. In live performance, as the hag, Bustamante takes the audience on a bizarre journey, Frankensteining a patchwork of fables to create a meandering and warped morality tale. Hero interrogates the idea of myth, fantasy, and primordial archetypes in the modern world. Hero is storytelling from a cinematic perspective. Hero is contemporary and aware, without being didactic.
